Peter D. Pecere studied composition with Bright Sheng and Evan Chambers in Ann Arbor, Michigan and also studied composition and theory with Karlheinz Stockhausen in Kürten, Germany. Pecere studied music at Hofstra University, and Mannes College of Music in New York, N.Y. as a piano performance major under Eugenia Monacelli. Later he continued his piano studies in New York with Karl Ulrich Schnabel and continues to study with Frank Weinstock, at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Earlier piano studies were under Marion DeJesu, and he also studied theory with John Myszka.

A native of Amityville, N.Y., Pecere has performed numerous piano recitals and won both first and second prizes in competitions such as the Bay Shore Music Lovers Association, Suffolk Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, Knights of Pythias Competition, and others.

Pecere also worked as a studio musician for Cumberland Productions, Inc., in New York as a keyboardist, arranger, and conductor. He produced and performed on recordings for pop groups such as Pajent, The Grasshoppers, The Stone Project, and others. Pecere received critical acclaim for his work in this field from the former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney.

Pecere’s compositions are influenced by his background in mathematics. He holds a Bachelors of Science degree in mathematics from State University of New York, Stony Brook, and a Masters of Science degree in mathematics from Long Island University, C. W. Post Campus, Brookville, New York.

He has been Composer-in-Residence at Western Michigan University (Fall 2010) and will be Composer-in-Residence at High Point University (Spring 2013). He’ll be performing (piano) in the Sonic Spring Festival this April at Stony Brook University (New York).

Pecere’s composition, “0, 1, 4750Å” appears on ERMMedia’s, “Masterworks of the New Era” Volume 15. (Distributed by NAXOS and Apple iTunes®).
