Richard's career as a composer spans more than thirty years from his early days as a chorister at Gloucester Cathedral.
His instrumental and choral works have been performed by musicians on both sides of the Atlantic,
recorded on CD and published.
He received his South Bank debut in 2001 with his work 8 'til Late for 8 hands on 2 pianos.
This work was later included on the 2003 CD by Piano40 (Regent Records) and featured in an article
in the Observer on Sunday.
His work Cave Paintings was recorded in Canada by the group Ephyra for their debut CD Modern Standards
the same year that Michael Varner, professor of percussion at The University of Texas, Arlington, premiered
Susvar for solo marimba. Susvar has since been toured by Michael.
In 2006 he was commissioned by The Cheltenham Bach Choir to write a work for their
Gloucestershire Composers concert. Venues have included The Dome, Brighton, Arundel Cathedral,
Chichester Cathedral (a thirty minute work for orchestra and chorus to mark the millennium), Gloucester Cathedral,
The South Bank Centre, the Millennium Dome, The Banff Centre, Canada, The University of Texas, Arlington, USA,
The Anvil, Basingstoke, The Assembly Hall, Worthing and others.....
In 2009 he was awarded an FLCM in composition.
