“The drummer and composer Sean Noonan approaches postmodern jazz and world music from the same angle of self-discovery … he manages to make his pieces speak coherently, and in a unified voice.” – The New York Times
Drummer, composer, and storyteller, Sean Noonan has emerged as part of the next generation of cutting edge music from the Brooklyn underground, performing in over 16 countries around the world, producing over 14 albums, incorporating a diverse spectrum of styles and recognized musicians such as Marc Ribot, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Mat Maneri, Abdoulaye Diabate, and Susan McKeown.
Since the Fall 2009 Brewed by Noon tour, I have been producing a new album "Set the Hammer Free" that is a fermentation of Irish-American storytelling improvised on the drum set. Inspired by Irish avant-garde writer Samuel Beckett, "Set the Hammer Free" is a collection of Art Rock songs and high energy Punk-Jazz from the New York underground traveling to and from America, Ireland, West Africa, and beyond.
In addition, I will be active recording a drum solo album in Germany and currently composing a work based on dreams, lullabies and nightmares to be premiered by my new "Boxing Dreams String Quartet" at John Zorn's The Stone in May 2011.
