Anne Neikirk was born in 1983 in Minneapolis, MN, and grew up in Scotia, New York. She is currently working towards a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition at Temple University. She holds a Master of Music degree in composition from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Hamilton College. She is a teaching assistant in music theory and orchestration at Temple. She has served as an admissions assistant for the College of Musical Arts at Bowling Green State University and as a teaching assistant in aural skills and world music at Hamilton College. Anne is a recent alumna of the Brevard Music Institute's composition program where she studied under composers Robert Aldridge and Kevin Puts.


As an undergraduate, Anne was credited for preparing the musical examples for "A Resisting Performance of an Appalachian Traditional Murder Ballad: Giving Voice to 'Pretty Polly' " by Lydia Hamessley, published in Women in Music in 2005. Her graduate work has involved several collaborative projects, including Temple's Tyler/Boyer Collaborative during which she worked with artist Kristen Moore. She has also recently completed a choral commission from the Women's Sacred Music Project and is active with Philadelphia's Network for New Music organization.


Anne serves as the president of conTemplum, Temple University's student chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc. She also served on the executive board of Praecepta, Bowling Green State University's comparable student SCI chapter in 2008/2009. Anne is a member of ASCAP, SCI and the American Composers Forum. She has composed works for orchestra, string orchestra, wind ensemble, SATB chorus, chamber ensemble and solo instrument. Her composition teachers include Aaron Travers, Samuel Pellman, Lewis Rosengarten, Burton Beerman, Marilyn Shrude, Cynthia Folio and Maurice Wright.
