David K. MacIntyre

David MacIntyre is a Canadian composer based in Vancouver. He's primarily known as a composer of the theatre with numerous operas, music theatre projects, dance and site-specific works. He write extensively for the voice and his choral music - particularly AVE MARIA (1994) and it's sister work ALLELUIA (2011) are performed around the world.

His catalog features over 100 titles, many of which are full-evening works and he has collaborated with some of Canada's most intriguing artists including playwrights Tom Cone, Hiro Kanagawa, and Stephen Miller; poet Robin Blaser and choreographers Karen Jamieson, Lola MacLaughlin, Judith Garay and Jean Pierre Perreault.

His operas include HUMULUS THE MUTE (1979), ARIA DA CAPO (1982), THE ARCHITECT (1994) commissioned by Vancouver Opera, COMMUNION (1996), LOVE IN PUBLIC (2004), TOM PINKERTON, THE BALLAD OF BUTTERFLY'S SON (2008) and THE RESISTANCE OF MR. (2011).

He was invited to join the faculty of Simon Fraser University in 1979 where he co-founded the program in contemporary music. He is currently Professor in the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver where he teaches music composition, interdisciplinary composition and collaboration. He's been the director of the Graduate Program for three terms and he's been Head of Music for most of the last 34 years.
