Christopher Ludwig is a highly prolific composer whose musical training and style originate in traditional counterpoint and woodwind writing. This foundation has transferred into his piano and vocal writing, which use ornamental figuration and linear polyphony. Art Song has been a principle genre for Mr. Ludwig - he has composed over five hours of songs and song cycles. He has also written almost three hours of solo piano music. His second solo piano album was described by Carol Greenly of Con Brio Recordings as an, “…uninhibited, unique CD of contemporary piano solos.” Brian Mix described the music of his three recent art song recordings as being “…an effective blend of musical expression with vocal phrasing that is, to quote Pound’s dictum, “swift, uncluttered and functional.”
His stylistic preferences are eclectic, with a preference towards Neo-Classicism and a lighter form of acoustic Modernism.
