Mark Isaacs is an internationally-acclaimed Australian composer and pianist who works with equal ease within the classical concert-hall and the jazz/improvisation musical traditions. He has been commissioned to compose numerous concert works for major Australian orchestras, ensembles and soloists, many of which have been recorded and performed internationally. As a performer he has toured extensively internationally and within Australia as a leading jazz artist appearing and recording with some of the artform’s most esteemed international figures, has appeared on the international concert stage to perform his own piano concerto, made recordings of classical piano repertoire and toured as a classical pianist in the cello and piano duo Tapas. He has many internationally-acclaimed jazz CDs to his credit including a 2000 international release on the prestigious Naxos label and several for the ABC and Vorticity. He has on occasion conducted his own music with leading Australian orchestras and has also composed music for film, television and the theatre. Mark is a recipient of a 2-year Australia Council Fellowship as well as other distinguished prizes and awards, has served on major committees, written reviews and articles for several publications, designed and maintained a web forum for the Australian jazz community, been involved in fundraiser concerts and has organised numerous national and international touring and recording projects. He has been involved with the programming jazz at the Brisbane Powerhouse since 2005, including curating the inaugural Brisbane Jazz Festival.
