Jack Worth Henry (1989- ) is a budding musician, songwriter, and composer whose work has been performed in the East Bay since 2004. Jack started playing the guitar at the age of eight, and the double bass at the age of eleven. With support and encouragement from his middle school music teacher, Greg Mazmanian, Jack started composing contemporary classical music. His first piece “Aboard the S.S. Minnow Johnson” for String Orchestra, was premiered in the fall of his sophomore year. Since then Jack has been privileged to study composition with Bernard Crane, Christopher Olin, Martin Rokeach, Allen Shearer, and Libby Larsen.
Jack received his first commission through the River of Words Foundation, Met Life’s “Meet the Composer” foundation, and Women Sing, a semi-professional women’s choir based in the San Francisco East Bay. The commission, titled “Sombra del Mar” is for was premiered in March 2010. Jack is continuing his composition studies at California State University, East Bay and is currently studying with Dr. Allen Shearer. Jack is also aspiring to be a music therapist, and is studying under the tutelage of Susan Rancer.
