Dr. Janet Grice, bassoonist, is versed in a wide range of styles - especially Brazilian, jazz and contemporary music – and performed internationally with Karl Berger, Butch Morris, the STX Ensemble Xenakis, the Mingus Orchestra, and her groups. She was the recipient of grants from the Surdna Foundation in Brazil, the Westchester Arts Council for her composition Hudson Views, a Fulbright Fellowship for research in Brazil, the National Endowment, Arts International, and Meet the Composer. Academic degrees include a DMA in bassoon from Rutgers University, MM in composition from New York University and BM from the New England Conservatory. She plays in the Chappaqua Orchestra, freelances, and leads Vento Trio in performances of Latin American chamber music. Her recordings include Music Minus One, 4 CDs of Brazilian jazz and chamber music, and participation on CDs by Eve Beglarian, Leroy Jenkins, John Lurie and Bernie Worell, among others. Janet teaches instrumental music at Fordham High School for the Arts and bassoon at the Hoff-Barthelson Music School. She led master classes at Conservatoire Gabriel Fauré in France and Instituto Villa-Lobos at UniRio in Brazil, and taught at Rutgers University, St. Joseph’s College of NY, Lincoln Center Institute, and the Festival de Música de Londrina, Brazil.
