Although interested in theoretical physics, cosmology and chemistry as a child, at age fifteen Paul Cooijmans began composing and playing guitar as an autodidact. From 1986 to 1993 he studied composition and guitar at the Brabants Conservatorium in Tilburg, the Netherlands. His music, wherein a preference for polyphony is apparent, has been described as absurdistic.
