Stephen Cleobury is Director of Music at King’s College, Cambridge and Conductor Laureate
of the BBC Singers; he works with leading orchestras and choirs worldwide across a broad repertoire, particularly championing contemporary works. He is also widely in demand as an organist, teacher and adjudicator.
At King’s, he has commissioned a carol annually for A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, refreshing this great tradition of Christmas music with compositions from the foremost composers of today. In March 2005, he instigated the first Easter Festival of Music at King’s, now an annual event, at which he conducts concerts with various ensembles, including the Academy of Ancient Music, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Britten Sinfonia, the Philharmonia, the BBC Singers, and other groups, and from which the BBC regularly broadcasts. He has also established a high-profile concert series at King's - 'Concerts at King's' - at which many leading musicians haved performed.
Performances as an organ recitalist have taken him to venues as diverse as Hong Kong, Haderslev Cathedral in Denmark and Salt Lake's LDS Conference Center, where he played to an audience of several thousand people.
