Sara Carvalho is a Senior Lecturer in the Communication and Arts Department of Aveiro University, Portugal, where she has coordinated Undergraduate and Masters in Music Studies.
She is a fellow researcher of INET-MD, and her investigation is balanced between the fields of Music Education and Music Composition. In 1995 she completed her music teacher training degree in Portugal, and holds a MA (1996), and a DPhil (2000) in Composition from York University, UK. As a composer she is interested in the interaction of Performing Arts as an extension and transformation of musical thinking, and all aspects associated with musical narrative. Her folio has over 30 pieces for solo instrument, small and large ensembles and orchestra, which are played regularly both in Portugal and around the World. Several of her pieces are available on CD, edited by Numérica and Phonedition. Her scores are published by the Portuguese Music Information & Investigation Centre. In the field of Music Education, Sara is researching the influence of creative processes on the development of musical thinking in children. She is a regular presenter in national and international conferences, and has her work published. She co-convenes the International Conference Performa, held since 2007 in Aveiro University.
