Christopher Caliendo

BIOGRAPHY: Christopher Caliendo, composer, guitarist and publisher For the flute alone, Christopher Caliendo has composed & published over 250 compositions, many of which are standards in today’s flute repertoire. This unique catalog of world music compositions includes a concerto, eight flute sonatas, thirty six flute and guitar duets, four method books, fifteen flute choir publications, fifteen flute duos, seventeen flute solos, eleven wind quintets and win ensemble works. The catalog is now represented in 47 stores nationwide with presence in Canada, South Korea and England. As a Hollywood film and TV composer, he has written scores for the television series Dallas and Knot’s Landing, receiving an Emmy nomination in 1988 for his work on the television series, Paradise. Film soundtracks include the restoration of Major Dundee for SONY Pictures, the 136 minute soundtrack to John Ford’s silent feature, The Iron Horse, which was included in the top 10 film scores of the year by Film Score Monthly magazine. More recently the DVD Box set from 20th Century Fox Murnau and Borzage at FOX won him the distinguished Heritage Award for the 2nd time. Mr. Caliendo will be scoring To The Dogs Parts 1 and 2 based on director/writer Halfdan Hussain's novel in winter, 2010. As a concert world music guitarist Mr. Caliendo has performed with numerous Hollywood stars such as Ron Perlman, Linda Hamilton, Walter Koenig, Larry King, The Manhattan Transfer and was the special performer requested by Bob Hope for his 90th birthday. He is endorsed by Kevin Ryan guitars and performs on the model - The Mission Grand. His numerous recordings are available in stores and online. Keith Hannaleck of Gramophone Magazine has described Christopher as, “… one fantastic guitar player … simply masterful and as fluid as humanly possible. A great composer … one of the best musicians in the world.” Christopher is the recipient of numerous awards and commissions including a decorative scroll from the City of Los Angeles honoring his achievement as the first American in Vatican history to be twice commissioned by Pope John Paul II. Most recently Christopher's Clarinet Concerto was accepted at Arizona State University by Clarinet professor Bob Spring and DMA committee as the subject for Jeff Quomo's Doctoral dissertation. Likewise, all eight flute sonatas have been accepted as the dissertation subject of his wife Kristin by Claremont University.
