William Jeffery is a pianist-composer based in Newcastle, Australia. He is currently in the second year of his Bachelor of Music studies, under the tutelage of Colin Spiers and Ian Munro, at the University of Newcastle. Here in 2012 he was awarded the Friends of the UoN and a Tertiary Music Scholarships.

William is one of six composers that have been selected to participate in the Australian String Quartet's National Composers' Forum 2013. Fidyll will be workshopped and performed this October by the Quartet, led by their composer-in-residence Andrew Ford.

Most recently, members of the Sydney Youth Symphony premiered Jeffery's octet Octobbligato at their Contemporary Music Concert 1 this September. In April, violist Gregory McGarity premiered Short and Suite at the Auckland Viola Convention, New Zealand. This work was awarded first place in the solo viola category of the inaugural Australia and New Zealand Viola Society Composition Competition 2013.

In 2011 William was one of the six young composers invited to participate in the Sydney Symphony Orchestra's Sinfonietta Project 2011. Vagary was workshopped and performed by the Sydney Symphony Sinfonia and Richard Gill.

Between 2008 and 2011, William studied piano with Renate Turrini in Coffs Harbour. During this time he performed with the Bellingen Youth Orchestra at the Bellingen Music Festival 2010 and 2011.

Along with fellow undergraduate Hannah Murray, the two have formed the French horn and piano ensemble, Duo Entendre. Apart from performing the already existing works for this ensemble, the two are interested in facilitating the creation of new works for horn and piano.
