JAKUB POLACZYK(*1983) is a polish vocal and instrumental composer, pianist and musicologist. Presently student of the Artist Diploma in Composition at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music in Pittsburgh with Reza Vali. In 2010 he received master degree in composition at the Music Academy of Cracow. He studied there with: Krzysztof Penderecki, Marcel Chyrzyński and Marek Chołoniewski. In 2008/2009 semester as Socrates-Erasmus program he studied in the Royal Conseravtory of Music in Brussels, where he honed his compositional techniques in the class of Jan van Landeghem. In 2010/2011 he attended the postgraduate course at the Łódź Academy in audiovisaul art. From 2011 he achieved a full scholarship and is an artist diploma student with professor Reza Vali at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Moreover he is a musicologist in 2005 he achieved his bachelor degree in musicology at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. In 2012 attended the summer courses in Maccagno (SoundSCAPE Festival), in 2010 in Auvillar (Etchings Festival). in 2009 in Ostrava (Ostrava Music Days(2009). In 2006 and 2009 achieved the Sapere Auso Foundation scholarship and in 2010 scholarship of the president of Cracow. His pieces were 17 times awarded and many times performed in Poland and abroad. The most important awards are: 2nd prize for BAden-baDen-badEn on the International Composition Competition: ”Generace” in Ostrava (2012), honorable mention citation on the `International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2011` in Thesalloniki (2011), 1st Prize on the Orion Symphony Composers Competition in London (2011), Special Award on the Jeju International Composition Competition in South Korea (2009), 1st prize on the John Paul II Days in Cracow (2009) and 1st prize on the 5th Tadeusz Ochlewski Composition Competition in Cracow (2007). His pieces were many times performed abroad and the most important performance of his pieces during contemporary music festivals were in: SoundSCAPE Festival in Maccagno in Italy (2012), Druskomanija in Vilnus (2011, 2012), “Nuovi Spazi Musicali” in Roma (2011), Warsaw Autumn (2011), “Alma Mater” Festival in Budapest (2010), ISCM Music Days in Sydney (2010), Conference IC[CM] in La Coruna (2010), Ostrava Music Days (2009), International Contemporary Festival in Daegu (2008), The Polish Music Festival in Cracow (2007).
