Adam Vidiksis was born in 1979 in Staten Island, the least populated borough of New York City. His musical studies began on the piano at age four. As a child, he could frequently be found hitting nearly everything around him in order to experience the sound it would make: Adam soon discovered his love of creating new musical possibilities and his passion for all things percussion. His pursuits led him to earn a bachelor’s degree in music from Drew University, where his interests included percussion performance, conducting, and composition. He went on to attend New York University, receiving his Master's degree in music composition. There, he studied composition with Marc-Antonio Consoli and conducting with Dinu Ghezzo.
Adam’s original compositions often focus on sound, science, and the intersection of humankind with the machines we build. His works have been performed throughout the United States and abroad. Commissioned by International Composers and Interactive Artists, he composed and conducted a new work performed by the “Black Sea Symphony,” the orchestra of the Oleg Danovski National Theater of Opera and Ballet in Constanta, Romania. Exceptional ensembles have performed his work, including the Momenta Quartet, the New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, and the NYU Percussion Ensemble. His compositions have been performed in many venues, from the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and Raven Stadium in Maryland, churches and concert halls throughout the American northeast, to the Licino Refice Conservatorio di Musica in Frosinone, Italy.
Adam has given instruction in percussion at numerous high schools and colleges on the east coast. Recently, Adam was an Adjunct Lecturer and Affiliate Artist at his alma mater, Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, where he conducted the Wind Ensemble. He was also the Assistant Director of Bands at Monsignor Farrell High School, where he worked with the concert, marching and jazz bands. He currently teaches percussion classes at the Georgia E. Gregory Interdenominational School of Music in North Philadelphia.
Adam lives in Wilmington, Delaware. He is earning a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in music composition at Temple University, where he studies composition with Dr. Maurice Wright.
Adam is a member of ASCAP, American Composers Forum, Society of Composers, Inc., SEAMUS, the Percussive Arts Society, and the College Music Society. He is actively involved as the Program Coordinator of conTemplum, an organization dedicated to the creation, performance, and discussion of new music at Temple University. Adam is also the conductor of the Temple Composers Orchestra. His percussion compositions are available through HoneyRock Publishing.
