Cristina Uruc was born in Constanta, Romania, on the 18th of January 1988. She began her musical studies (piano) in 1994 at the Queen Mary National College of Arts in her hometown. In 2006 she began studying composition at the National Music University from Bucharest (UNMB) under the guidance of composer and professor Livia Teodorescu Ciocănea. She graduated in June 2010 with „Contraste“ clarinet concerto which has been performed by the Symphonia Orchestra of the UNMB in the Opera Studio Hall of the UNMB and also by the “Ion Dumitrescu” Philharmonic Orchestra from Ramnicu Valcea. She is now attending the master courses of the University above mentioned and working on a ballet based on the romanian novel „Ciuleandra“ written by Liviu Rebreanu, in order to obtain a Master Diploma in Compositional Style and Language.
Her composition portfolio includes works for chamber ensambles, solo instruments, pieces for orchestra and a clarinet concerto.
Between 2005 and 2010 Cristina Uruc attended contemporary arts master classes held by composers Doina Rotaru, Dan Dediu (Romania), Erik Peters (Sweden), Marian Borkovski (Poland), Philip Cashian, Kenneth Hesketh, Param Vir (United Kingdom) and musicologists Valentina Sandu-Dediu, Ioana Pârvulescu, Laura Vasiliu (Romania) and Roza Nolcheva (Macedonia). She also received musical advice from composers Liviu Marinescu, Sever Tipei (U.S.A) and from the renown japanese composer Joji Yuasa.
Her compositions have been awarded numerous prizes: Ist prize at the National Composition Competitions „Mihail Jora” (Bucharest, 2010) and „Paul Constantinescu” (Ploiesti, 2008) , Finalist of the International Composition Competition „Eduardo Ocon” (Spain, 2010), IIIrd prize ex-aequo at the International Composition Competition „From Romanticism to Contemporary”(Bucharest, 2009), Best Composition ex-aequo at the IconArts International Competition (Sibiu, 2008), among others.
