Kari Beate Tandberg - Biography
The Norwegian composer Kari Beate Tandberg (b. 1958) started her musical career as a pianist, receiveiving her diploma degree in composition at the Norwegian State Academy of Music (NSAM) in 2002. She has participated at seminars with Xenakis, Gubaidulina, Grisey, Ferneyhough among others.
Tandberg is now occupied both as composer and music teacher.
Her recent first performances in 2010 is Sétsi for euphonium and african perc. instr., Brudd for 2 saxophones (ss, as) both in Norway, and Akantus for voice and shamisen performed in Japan. A new sinfonietta-piece and a pianoquintet is now in progress.
Modes and Moves (2008)) for symphonic band was picked by Stockholm Wind Ensemble and conductor Christian Lindberg to be performed in Stockholm september 2010. During Nordic Music Days 2010 in Copenhagen the stringquartet Dwindle (2009) was played by Kairos from Berlin.
As a reseach fellow at NSAM (2003-2006) Kari Beate Tandberg in her project From Moving Pictures to Organized Sound examined the possibilities of using digital analysis from moving images as basis for composing music.
In 1995 she won first price in the Fanny Mendelssohn Competition for woman composers, with Custodia for three singers (s,m,a) and eight instrumentralists.
Her list of works includes symphony orchestra and ensemble, chamber music, ballet-music and solo piece with electronics.
