Gabrio Taglietti (Cremona, 1955) studied composition at the Milan Conservatory with Davide Anzaghi and Giacomo Manzoni, taking his diploma in 1981. In the same period he completed his piano studies with Maria Grazia Bertocchi.
His works (for solosits, chamber ensembles and orchestra) have been performed in numerous concerts both in Italy and abroad, in places such as Utrecht (Festival Gaudeamus, 1976), Boswil (5. Internationales Komponisten-Seminar, 1978), Paris (Radio France, 1985), Prague (1995), Tokyo (1999). For his works he received the following prizes: Guido d’Arezzo (1988), Evangelisti (1989), Zafred (1990), Caracciolo (1991). His music has also frequently been broadcasted by radio.
In 2001 was published by Ricordi a cd with an anthology of his chamber music: from this cd Gianni Celati has chosen the soundtrack for his film Crumbling houses. In 2006 he completed an unfinished Sonata movement by Mendelssohn (Allegro con fuoco), which was premiered at Berlin Philharmonie by Roberto Prosseda. In 2008 his new Sonata for piano (Garden of the Bright Carvings) has been premiered in Tokyo.
Apart from composing, Taglietti has translated a number of musical essays, among that the first complete italian translation of the Critical Writings by Robert Schumann, the Schoenberg-Mann’s letters and the rhythmic version of the opera Das verratene Meer by H.
