His style emphasizes sound - compositions instead of pitch - compositions. He is not so much interested in the absolute pitch of the acoustic material, but in the colour, the direction, the reaction to the space involved, mobility, and the reaction of the space to the material. Günther Zechberger favours complex structures within the tension between strictly organised order and chaos. His compositions include pieces for solo instruments, chamber music, pieces for choir and for orchestra, computer compositions, spatial installations and action music.
By means of specific projects he has been taking part increasingly in the aesthetic discussion on media art and art with new communication technologies and techniques.
