Monica Lynn

Monica Lynn's music has been performed throughout the United States with additional premieres in China, France, Italy, Serbia and South Korea. Recent honors include selection as 2011 Award Winner for the Dallas Festival of Modern Music, recognition as Honorary Associate for the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2011 by the National Academy of Music with The Municipal Conservatories of Neapolis and Sykies, Greece and election as Board Member At-Large for National Association of Composers USA.
In June 2010, University of California, Santa Cruz presented Monica with its first doctorate in Composition and World Music under the instruction of Drs. Karlton Hester and David Cope. In addition to her coursework, Dr. Lynn pursued theory and composition studies at Festival MusicAlp, Courchevel Academie Internationale de Musique, in Courchevel, France as well as the European American Musical Alliance, Ecole Normale de Musique, in Paris, France. In the studio of composer Michel Merlet during both festivals, Monica explored the compositional techniques of Merlet and his mentor, Olivier Messiaen. Dr. Lynn's research interests include in-depth analysis of proportion and form in contemporary art music, modern performance techniques, traditional music and instruments of various cultures, multicultural influences in modern Eurocentric art music, and cultural exchange through the medium of music.
