William C Harrington

I studied composition, performance, and electronic music at Cal State Dominguez Hills, with Richard B. Evans, author of the definitive book on John Cage, "The Well Prepared Piano". During that time, I also attended seminars with several composers including Nicholas Slominsky.
After leaving college I worked in the wholesale record industry (one stops and distributors) for two years. The Arab oil embargo of the mid '70s ended that.
From 1976 - 81, I was a keyboard tech for several bands, including Gentle Giant, and Frank Zappa. (This included making a brief, credited appearance in Zappa's movie, "Baby Snakes"). During the 2nd FZ European tour, Pierre Boulez visited.
While enrolled in UCLA Extension's Music Business course, I receiving two NARAS scholarships. These classes included record production with Nick Venet (producer of The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater and many others).
Between 1980 to 2005, I was a sound engineer working on many television shows, receiving 5 Emmy certificates for contributions in the best sound category (four for Cheers, plus one for The Arsenio Hall Show).
In 2006 The American Composers Forum awarded me a SUBITO grant to help defer the cost of my third studio CD, Nuclear Menace which was reviewed in the fall/2007 issue of Signal to Noise magazine.
G3 - a collection of improvisations "featuring some of LA's finest improvisers" - was released in 2011.
Currently, I live in Los Angeles, having recently performed at the REDCAT Theater, RESBOX @ the Steve Alan Theater, Highways, and The Blue Whale.
