Studied at the Royal College of Music and later privately with Peter Maxwell Davies. Also with Nadia Boulanger and Olivier Messiaen as recipient of a French Government Scholarship and Goffredo Petrassi as recipient of a Leverhulme European Fellowship. Taught at Dartington College of Arts and also Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne. No longer writes music. Recently described as one of this century’s most insightful corporate philosophers, and by Forbes Asia as one of the smartest people on the planet, Richard is considered to be among the world’s most influential intellectuals and strategic knowledge designers. He was until recently Distinguished Professor of Strategic Foresight at Dhurakij Pundit University in Bangkok. Founder and Executive Chairman of The Hames Group, President of the Asian Foresight Institute and a partner in The Constellation, Richard works internationally as an adviser to governments and with many of the world’s most innovative and entrepreneurial business corporations.
Richard is also personal mentor to heads of state, government ministers and company directors across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Europe and South America. A celebrated speaker and writer, Richard is the author of several best-selling books including The Management Myth; Burying the 20th Century and The Five Literacies of Global Leadership. He is currently working on two new books, The Expanded Now and Dancing with the Future. Both are concerned with the development of a new humanitarian cosmology and societal paradigms from advanced levels of collective consciousness. Richard is a Fellow of the World Academy of Art & Science and an active social entrepreneur. He is also the inspiration behind Isaan New Life - a business venture aimed at stemming the traffic of young women and children into Bangkok’s sex industry by revitalizing community life in the north-east of Thailand and its immediate borders. Richard has ten children (including eight from his previous marriage, an inherited daughter and 8-month old son from his current partner) in addition to six grand children.
