Jan Hadermann was born near Antwerp (Belgium) in 1952. His first music lessons were given by his own father. Once he had chosen for a professional training he went to Louvain where he studied at the Lemmens Institute. There he received the Certificate for Composition & Musical Education, wich includes First Prizes in Theory of music, Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue. He also studied at the Royal Antwerp Conservatory of Music . As a student of Willem Kersters there he received the First Prize for Composition.

Since 1973 Jan Hadermann teaches counterpoint, fugue and composition at the Lemmens Institute in Louvain and since 1979 until 2002 he was teacher of composition at the Royal School for Carillon “Jef Denijn” in Mechelen. At the Royal Antwerp Conservatory of Music he teaches the theory of concert-band conducting. Besides teaching and composing Jan Hadermann is conductor, clinician and member of several jury’s.
Jan Hadermann not only writes for concert bands, but also for piano, symphonic orchestra, choir, chamber orchestras and electronic music. Most of his works have been played by the best ensembles in Belgium and abroad, and have been recorded on C.D.
In 1993 Jan Hadermann received the 'Sabam-award' for wind band music, which is given every four years.
