Chus Alonso was born in Spain where his musical education was eclectic. His professional experience includes 25 years performing, composing, leading musical projects and teaching. As a composer, his focus has been creating contemporary music rooted in flamenco, Latin American traditional genres and jazz. He is the leader of the ensemble Potaje and founding member of the Orquesta la Moderna Tradición, one of the most significant groups in the movement to recover and modernize the Cuban Danzón and Cha-cha-cha. Alonso teaches ensemble classes at the Community Music Center in San Francisco.
