Stephen C. Stone began composing at age 12. He studied composition at Oberlin College and the Peabody Conservatory, with summer work at the Aspen Music School. He has received numerous commissions, ranging from a solo guitar piece to an orchestral overture, and won several awards. He also plays clarinet and has performed in community orchestras and chamber groups in DC and Maryland. He previously taught music theory at Towson University. He currently teaches at Peabody Conservatory, where he serves as Chair of the Music Theory Department. He also serves as Director of the Peabody at Homewood program, which oversees music classes and the music minor at Johns Hopkins’ Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.
